Department of Economics

The study of economics constitutes the first steps toward understanding the forces and mechanisms shaping modern societies. It provides some guiding principles about life in modern societies. The students of the Department of Economics start by learning basic economic principles through the analysis of various topics closely related to everyday life. The Department comprises three divisions: Socio-Economics, Economic and Social Policy, and Applied Socio-Economic Analysis. Students are encouraged to deepen their knowledge by focusing on courses offered by one of these divisions according to their own interests. They are further expected to develop their views on issues related to modern society based on the economic perspective, and to develop policy-oriented perspectives aimed at solving the economic problems facing Japan and the world.
