Department of Material Science and Chemistry

In nature, atoms and molecules combine organically and systematically to form various materials. Moreover, through their amazing interaction with surroundings, such as light, they ultimately constitute the diversified and bountiful world we see. The Department of Material Science and Chemistry provides opportunities to study and integrate the basic knowledge in both the fields of physics and chemistry. Eventually, students can acquire knowledge and techniques for controlling and creating materials with new properties in the atomic or molecular scale. The department is engaged in broad research on nanotechnology, which is often referred to as the alchemy of the 21st century, from basics to applications. The curriculum features a variety of practices and experiments linked to the lectures, and we also support students' self-motivated learning.
