Department of Tourism Management

  1. The study of tourism via scientific methods in business management
  2. An emphasis on hospitality
  3. Fostering the development of tourism producers and tourism executives

The Department of Tourism Management aims at developing students into individuals able to serve as leaders in the tourism industry or related hospitality industry. The courses provide learning of business management and foster the ability to create new environment industries and service industries from a hospitality perspective, as well as delve into and create business strategies for such industries. Specifically, if students hope to become tourism business producers, basic and general education courses may provide them with knowledge regarding tourism and Japanese culture such as the tea ceremony and flower arrangement. And, subsequently, the same individuals may take more specialized basic courses to learn about business management and operations in an effort to gain a broad knowledge base. The specialized core courses aim at connecting theory and practice by having students not only take courses related to tourism, but also learn practical tourism via case studies. This department also places a great emphasis on foreign language education. Via studies that include the reading of literature in foreign languages and a look into tourism English, the program strives to provide students with advanced communication capabilities upon graduation. Furthermore, they are afforded the chance to polish their practical skills through internships in which they experience the actual work in domestic and overseas venues.
