The particular "Status of Residence" granted to international students by the Immigration Bureau is for academic activities only, and no other engagements are generally authorized. Therefore, only by filing the requisite applications, part-time work is possible. It is necessary to consult with the academic advisor designated for each international student, and complete the necessary application process at IER of Wakayama University in order to apply for the permission at the Immigration Bureau (nearby: Osaka Regional Immigration Bureau or its Wakayama Branch Office).
It is requested to strictly comply with permitted working hours described below:
- For full-time students: up to 28 hours per week and for long-term academic breaks (Summer, Winter, Spring) up to 8 hours per day
- For Part-time students: research students, Japanese Studies Students(Japanese government scholarship), exchange students and others: up to 14 hours per week and for long-term academic breaks (Summer, Winter, Spring) up to 8 hours per day
IER accepts this application once each month with the deadline being the 15th day for students living in Wakayama City, and files it on the applicant student’s behalf at the Osaka Regional Immigration Bureau or its Wakayama Branch Office. In this case, the student’s passport is required. Within the same month, the permit will be issued and granted by the end of the month.
