Biography

I received the B.S degree in Dept. of Mechanical Engineering in 1991, the M.S and the Ph.D degrees in Dept. of Mechanical Engineering for Computer-Controlled Machinery in 1993 and 1996, respectively, all from Osaka University, Osaka, Japan. In 1996 to 1997, I was a Research Fellow of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science and a Visiting Researcher at Dept. of Computer Science, Brown University, USA. In 1997 to 2002, I was a Research Associate at Graduate School of Information Science, Nara Institute of Science and Technology. In 2002, I was an Associate Professor at Dept. of Computer & Communication Sciences, Wakayama University, Japan. Since 2013, I have been a Professor at Dept. of Computer & Communication Sciences, Wakayama University, Japan. I am a member of the Robotics Society of Japan.
Research interests

Human being can learn how to accomplish complex tasks from one or several demonstration by a teacher. I want to realize such human beings' learning capability on robot using computer. My current research focuses on developing a novel function approximator with high generalization capability. I am also interested in traditional image processing tasks such as color correction, noise reduction and so on. I want to apply my function approximator to contolling robots and to various computer vision tasks.
I am also interested in developing a novel mobile robot which can safely interect with human beings. Currently, I'm developing a segway-type mobile robot.

My research interests include nonparametric learning, reinforcement learning, image enhancement and development of intelligent mobile robot. I make use of a class of techniques, or algorithms which are developed in filelds of artificial intelligence, statistics, and pattern recogntion. For more detail please see my personal home page.
